Marie Almy Obituary

WELLS - Marie E. (O'Connell) Almy, 76, passed away quietly and peacefully with her devoted daughter and best friend, Julie, by her side on Saturday, November 13, 2021.

Born in Ayer, MA, Marie was one of eight siblings. After high school she married Richard Almy, who predeceased her in 2017. A diligent worker, Marie ran a home day care for many years, owned a home cleaning business and eventually worked at Ayer Junior Senior High School in the cafeteria where she brightened the days of many with her kindness, sweet personality and warm smile before retiring after 17 years.

Some of Marie’s fondest memories were of family vacations spent visiting relatives in Tiverton (RI), going to Lake Winnipesaukee (NH) to enjoy waterslides, drive-ins, mini golf, and make your own sundaes, or trips to Maine, and she most enjoyed time by the ocean.

After retirement, Marie spent years caring for her beloved granddaughters. She also enjoyed spending time and lunches out with her siblings and friends and was a member of a bowling league.

A last big adventure was living a dream of moving to the ocean and Wells in 2018 with Julie. Even though Marie’s health concerns were challenging, she was not one to complain and focused instead on connecting with the people around her and being a part of her community. She created new memories with Julie in their home and spent treasured moments going to the beach and watching the ocean, and admiring the big sky and tall pines surrounding her. Marie was a member of the Wells Ogunquit Senior Center where she enjoyed having lunch and listening to music. A lover of animals, Marie was comforted by and cherished her pet companions. A gentle, accepting person with a beautiful soul, she gave and received love from all who became part of her life.

Her family would be remiss not to thank her wonderful caregivers, providing compassionate, comforting care and enabling her to be where she wanted to be, home with Julie and her pets. Marie also had gratitude for her neighbors and the Wells Town emergency responders for their ready and caring support. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Susan G. Komen breast cancer organization in Marie’s memory, a mission that was important to her.

“If you remember anything of me after I leave this world remember that I loved even when it was foolish. That I cared even when it was unwanted. When my body is gone, remember my heart.” -Abhishek Kuma
