Earl Adams Jr. Obituary

DAYTON- Earl Adams Jr, age 87, in the early evening of Saturday, February 15th, was lifted into glory and went home to be with our Lord and Savior. He passed after a lengthy illness, sleeping peacefully in his bed with his bride Patricia at his side and surrounded by family.

Earl Jr. was raised in Old Orchard Beach(OOB) by his parents, Earl and Elsie Adams. He was the youngest of six sisters and one brother. Young Earl was educated alongside his siblings in a one-room schoolhouse in Dayton, ME. He graduated from OOB High school in the spring of 1950 and went on to marry Patricia Allaire later that same year. They would have celebrated their 70th Anniversary in October of this year.

Earl and Pat travelled across the US many times and lived for a time in each of the nation’s four corners: Maine, Alaska, Florida and California.

He was a jack of all trades (and a master of some). As a young man, Earl started his career in 1954 at the Fire barn in OOB, and continued on to become an Assistant Fire Chief/Security at the Clear, Alaska Missile Early Warning System. He worked on the Alaska Pipeline from 1975-78. He was a 56 year member of Local Union 131 Plumbers and

Steamfitters, NH working as a steamfitter before retiring. But that didn’t end his working years. He went on to become the Campground Caretaker for Angeles Girl Scout Camp at White’s Landing, Catalina, CA for 7 years. And, after returning to Maine, he worked for the Turnpike Authority for 15 1/2 years as a Toll collector.

He was a member of the Lions Club in both Anderson, AK and Lyman-Dayton and he was a Mason out of Goodwins Mills, ME.

He loved boating and old cars (especially his Ranchero). And although he never made a fortune with it, he co-owned a gold mine and loved working it. He was even able to have some jewelry pieces made from the nuggets he was able to pan.

Earl is predeceased by his parents and siblings: Bertha, Marian , Dorothy, Grace, Gladys, Mildred and Walter Adams.

Pa is survived by his children, Sheila (Glenn McCallum), Dennis (Rita Foley) and Gary (Wendy Bombard Adams); his grandchildren Heather, Earl, Casey (Jay Morin) and Russell ; and his great- grandchildren Kylie, Gavin and Owen.

Earl and Pat were “adopted” by many people who also called them their own ‘Pa and Ma’: Tommy and Brian Smith; Diane, Mick, Jonathan and David Connis; Michelle, Armando and Victoria Jimenez; Brett, Amanda and Rye Larr; Bruce Finch, and so many others. They presently have a full household with family members Danny and Nancy (née Allaire) Barbano, Patti Ann Barbano-Soule, Benny Soule and Earl Adams III.

An open and kind-hearted man, Earl will also be missed by his many loving nieces, nephews and a host of long-time friends and colleagues.

2 Tim 4:7-8 “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” May God give all those whom Earl loved and who loved him in return grace, peace, strength and comfort during this time.

In lieu of flowers please consider sending donations to the Old Orchard Beach Alumni Association Scholarship Fund*. There will no services at this time. We will celebrate Earl’s life sometime in the Spring when the flowers are in bloom.
