Obituary

Joan P. Nadeau, 76, of Longfellow Place, Westbrook, Maine, formerly of Beacon Avenue, Biddeford, Maine and Peabody, Massachusetts, died Sunday, September 18, 2016, in Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine.

She was born, June 4, 1940, in Biddeford, a daughter of Laurent E. and Dora Y. Tousignant Nadeau.  She was educated in Biddeford Parochial schools and graduated from the former St. Joseph's High School.

A few years following her formal education in Biddeford, Joan moved to the Boston area where she became employed at the John Hancock Insurance Headquarters in Boston as an Accounting Clerk for several years.  She retired  11 years ago. During her employment in Boston she resided in Peabody, Massachusetts.

Joan was and active skier most of her adult life.  She belonged to various Ski Organizations in the Boston area and mainly skied in New Hampshire. During the summer months she enjoyed the beaches of Maine and Massachusetts. She was an active member of the Board of Directors in her housing complex in Peabody.  Card games and Jigsaw puzzles were her indoor recreation activities, especially Cribbage. Her several nieces and nephews were the recipients of much love from Joan in the form of birthday and holiday gifts as well as much encouragement in their endeavors.

She was a member of the former St. Joseph's parish in Biddeford.

Predeceasing her besides her parents was a sister, Rachel E. Nadeau Quinn, a brother, Normand L. Nadeau, and a nephew, Brian Quinn.

Survivors include her sister, Claire Nadeau Brannigan, Portland, Maine; sister in law, Jeannette Nadeau, Kattskill Bay, Lake George, New York; brother in law, Michael Quinn; a niece, Jennifer Quinn Hamil, her husband,Thomas Hamil and their children Michelle and Ryan Hamil all of Florida;  2 nephews,  Luke Brannigan, Portland;  Michael Nadeau and his wife, Laura, their children, Nicole Nadeau and David Nadeau and his wife, Maggie,  of Illinois; and several cousins.

There will be no visitation.  A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM, Friday, September 23, 2016, in St. Joseph's Church, 178 Elm Street, (Route 1), Biddeford.  Interment will be in the family lot in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Biddeford.  A reception will follow in St. Joseph's Church Hall.
