OLD ORCHARD BEACH, MAINE - Elaine R. (Lavallee) Loranger, 96, born December 21, 1927, in Biddeford, Maine, daughter of the late Armand J. Lavallee and Veronica P. Sharkey died November 15, 2024.
Elaine graduated from Biddeford High School and attended college at Gorham State Teachers College, now the University of Maine. She worked summers as an operator at the telephone company in Old Orchard Beach during her high school and college years. After college, Elaine moved to New York and worked at Westchester County Country Club as a secretary and receptionist.
On August 14, 1954, Elaine married Charles A. Loranger in Biddeford, Maine. He preceded her in death on September 12, 1967. Following the sale of her home in Old Orchard Beach, Elaine spent winters in Florida and summers in Old Orchard Beach until 2002, when she retired to enjoy time with her grandchildren, Sophie, Caleb, and Elizabeth.
Elaine enjoyed gardening, travel, and especially Caribbean cruises. She was a familiar sight on the beach, often seen walking with her friend, Lil Marshall, working on their tans. She loved recounting stories about dancing on the Pier to all of the Big Bands of the 1940s.
Elaine was a long-time member of St. Margaret's Parish in Old Orchard.
In addition to her parents and husband, Elaine was predeceased by her sister, Catherine Pauline Lavallee Lasczak, her nephew, Leonard J. Lasczak, Jr., and her long-time companion, David D. Parry.
Elaine is survived by her children: Guy T. Loranger, Ann M. Loranger, Michele Marshall, and her husband, Paul, all of Old Orchard Beach. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Andrew A. Averill of Waterboro and Sophia E. Loranger of Old Orchard Beach, great-grandchildren Caleb L. Averill and Elizabeth M. Averill, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Margaret's Catholic Church on December 7, 2024, at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at a later date at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Saco. A private memorial will be held at a later date.
