She attended Classical High School in Worcester continuing her education at Clark University. She was the first woman accepted into Clark University, among a small group of women, graduating in 1946.

In 1949, she married the love of her life, David R. Lennan, also from Worcester, and they were happily married for 56 years. She maintained a supportive relationship with the local Parkinson's group throughout her husband’s illness and following his death. She was a parishioner of The Good Shepard Parish of Biddeford and Saco.

Ruth had an active social life and is remembered by her many friends and family for her remarkable grace, warmth, and positive outlook. As an advocate for women’s progress, education, acceptance and community, she remains a true inspiration for all who knew and loved her.
