Richard and Dorothy traveled to Europe in 1996, visiting Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, and France where he was able to speak his second language, French.  Accompanied by their daughter and her husband serving in the US Army, they stopped in Triberg, Germany and explored the Black Forest and numerous clock factories.

Richard is survived by his wife of 52 years Dorothy; his son Jeffrey and his wife Lisa (Holden) Potvin of Windham; his daughter Paula Marie (Potvin) Reed and her husband Alan Reed of Gorham; and his four grandchildren Adam Reed, Nicholas Reed, Miranda Potvin and Kayla Potvin.
